Wayne L. Dickson, age 75, of Newark, Delaware, formerly of Salem, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 21st 2024, surrounded by family.
Born in Salem, NJ, he is the son of the late Russell Dickson and Mary Doughty Dickson. He was a Vietnam Veteran and was awarded the National Defense Medal and Medal for Expert sharp shooting. Wayne was a police officer for the City of Salem for 26 years retiring as sergeant. In his younger years he and his brother Lee were volunteer firefighters in Salem. He was a member of the Salem County Fraternal Order of Police, the VFW Post 253, the Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge # 1966, Washington Fire Company No. 3 of Salem and The Seventh Day Adventist
Church in Salem. Wayne loved family gatherings, going to car shows with his brother Lee, weekly dinners with his buddy Bruce, walking, current events, and washing his truck. His favorite thing was spending time with the loves of his life, daughter MaryBeth and her children Lily and Charlie. Wayne loved his Country, the land of the free, and was certainly one of the brave.
He is survived by his daughter, MaryBeth Greenberg (Matthew) of Hockessin, DE; his brother, Lee Dickson Sr. (Elaine) of Pennsville; his sister, Graceanne Dickson Jones (Darrell) of The Dalles, Oregon;
his grandchildren, Lily Jane and Charlie Woerner, Julia Woerner, Karissa Bendel, and 4 nieces and nephews. He was affectionately known as Uncle Winkie. Wayne is predeceased by his brother, James L. Dickson, and nephew Dan Washinger.
Services will be held 1:00 PM, Friday, June 28th 2024 at WOODSIDE FUNERAL HOME, 613 Salem Quinton Rd., Salem, NJ 08079 (Quinton Twp.); Viewing from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
Interment will be private.
