Walter Dennis Hughes, age 71, of Cape May NJ, passed away in Cooper University Hospital, Camden, NJ, on May 31st.
Dennis was a graduate of Pennsville High School and a veteran of the US Navy who served from 1967 to 1971. His last duty assignment was on the USS Woodrow Wilson (SSBN624). He was employed by Mannington Mills, Inc. in Salem, NJ for 38 years, retiring to Cape May in June 2010. His favorite pastime was fishing in Cape May on the Sea Star III with Captain Chuck Hackett. Dennis is survived by his wife of 48 years, Kathie (Essington) and his son, Douglas Boyce of Pennsville NJ; his siblings, Darilyn Petrucci (Joseph) of Wilmington, DE, Anita Carry of West Branch, MI, Lorraine Evans (Marlond) of Salem, NJ, Mary Kitzmiller of Carneys Point, NJ, Charles Hughes of Pennsville, Katherine Shook (Francis) of Pennsville, Gladys Till (Brady) of Hancock’s Bridge, Gregory Hughes Sr. (Dorothy) of Northfield, NJ; dozens of nieces and nephews. Dennis is predeceased by his parents, Irvin L. and Margaret S. Hughes; his brother, John L. Hughes; and his nephew, Kenneth (Jordan) Petrucci.
