Verna Ann (Pew) Kurman, age 85 of Greenwich, NJ went home to be with the Lord on May 26, 2026, after an extended illness.
Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Sr. and Alva Hewitt Pew. Verna was primarily a homemaker and raised an extended family of Bradbury and Loveland children. After that, she was employed by United Engineers as an administrative clerk while PSEG Artificial Island was being built, later worked for Prudential Healthcare in Millville, and was a Dispatcher for the Fairfield Township Police Department. She was a past member of the Fenwick Grange #20 in Harmersville, and served as a Past President of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #1966 Ladies Auxiliary.
Verna was an avid fisherwoman. Many a boat would follow Mr. Bill around the bay, as he always found the fish. Little did they know that it was almost always VK that caught the first, the biggest and the most fish. She also baked and decorated beautiful cakes for family and friends. Verna also loved spending time at Jersey Three Square deer camp in Pennsylvania with family and friends picking huckleberries, watching for bears and making family memories. In her spare time, she enjoyed doing cross-stitch, crossword puzzles, and reading. She loved her Broadstreet Bullies and was an avid Flyers fan to the end. But most importantly was her love of family, whether at home or traveling. She made sure to take each of her local great-grandchildren to Walt Disney World.
Verna is survived by her loving husband of nearly 50 years William T. Kurman Jr.; her daughters Beverly Bradbury (Pat Trapani) of Elsinboro, and Beth Bradbury of Victoria,Texas; and son George “Butch” Bradbury (Michele) of Alloway; her grandsons George “Brad” Bradbury (Sammi) and Bill Bradbury of Alloway, Ian Seran, Thomas Bradbury (Tomi) and Travis Troutman of Texas; great-grandchildren Hailey, Madilynn, Lillie and William Bradbury of Deerfield; Ariel and Rebecca Bradbury of Alloway; Ian, Gabriel, Logan, Sean, Bradley, Johnny, Kiera, Tristan, Naomi, Jacoby, Kal-El, Dominic, Tommy, Evelyn and Sydnie of Texas. In addition to her parents, Verna was preceded in death by her seven siblings Tom Jr., Ray, Kitty Weisgerber, Norris (Docky), Hannah Livingston, Janet Cohose and Billy.
Verna loved her flowers and would greatly appreciate having them, but if anyone would rather donate to a cause in her name, please do so to the Greenwich Fire and Rescue, 991 Ye Greate Street, Greenwich, NJ 08323.
Services will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, June 5, 2026 at WOODSIDE FUNERAL HOME, 613 Salem Quinton Rd., Salem, NJ 08079 (located in Quinton Twp.) where family and friends may visit from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Burial will be in the Salem County Veterans Cemetery in Pilesgrove, NJ.
