Thelma Zarin Obituary

On January 9, Thelma Zarin traveled to a new destination.

Born Thelma Marie Loveland on September 2, 1930 and raised in l Quinton, she enjoyed life for 94 years. After graduating from Salem High School in 1947, she initially worked as a bookkeeper at the Woolworth store in Salem, then moved on to Anchor Hocking before becoming a full-time homemaker. She met and married Walter Zarin in 1949, who shared her love of Saturday night dances which they continued to enjoy for many years at the Alloway Vets. Together, they raised their family of 3 children in Penton where she continued to reside independently. Every summer, Thelma enjoyed family vacations at the beach with the kids, and later 4 grandchildren. She loved developing a deep tan at the Jersey shore in summer, and Florida in the winter, while socializing with many friends in both locations. Thelma famously celebrated her September 2 birthday hosting Labor Day parties inviting family and friends, often serving up crabs. Together, Thelma and Walt traveled extensively, visiting almost all 50 states and several South Pacific countries. She especially enjoyed cruises and taking pictures. After Walt’s retirement, she continued to enjoy weekends at the beach at their trailer near Avalon,
NJ. At home, she was an avid backyard bird watcher and loved her plants. Thelma never forgot her family and lifetime friends. She was predeceased by Walt, her husband of 65 years,daughter-in-law, Debbie, her parents Clarence and Mattie, brothers Norman, Edward and Harold, and sisters Stella, Viola and Idella.
