Sandi Vengenock Obituary

Sandi Vengenock of Salem, NJ died after a long illness on February 25, 2023, surrounded by family and friends.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, on June 28, 1950, Sandi was the daughter of the late Alex and Olga Christo. According to historical accounts, no one knew beforehand that the delivery would result in twins—not even the obstetrician. Sandi made her entrance first. Then, exactly 9 minutes later, her identical twin sister, Sue, arrived. Despite the ups and downs of life, Sandi remained cheerful, friendly, and kind. She enjoyed many hobbies, including reading, reporting on the weather, and trips to the Jersey shore. She had a deep love for animals, especially dachshunds.  Among the dogs in her life were Duchess, Hilda, Maggie, and Cole. She had a diverse career taking on roles that included medical assistant, floral designer, and long-time customer service representative at Mannington Mills. But no role meant more to her than that of being a mother to her children, Jennifer and Patrick. Sandi was loving and fiercely devoted. They would remember fun times on the farm, trips to Cape May, and many happy Christmases. Eventually, that love would extend to grandchildren, who brought her much joy. Sandi was special to all who knew her and will be greatly missed and remembered. She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Ortiz and grandchildren, Alexandra and Marco; son, Patrick Vengenock, daughter-in- law Marisa, and grandchildren Sophia, Ty, and Lexi; siblings George Christo and family, Connie Christo Denham, and many lifelong friends. Her twin sister Sue, who passed in 2017, has been waiting to welcome Sandi home so they can finally be together again.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Sandi's memory to the Salem County Humane Society, 214 Game Creek Road, Penns Grove, NJ 08069.
