Robert A. McAllister, Jr., age 84, of Carneys Point passed away Monday, September 26th in Salem Medical Center.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Robert and Olivia Holt McAllister, Sr. He was a US Navy Veteran. Bob, along with his wife of 63 years, Barbara, were the owners and operators of the Salem Oak Diner from 1966 - 2006. He was a former member of the Penns Grove Exchange Club for many years and also a radio host on WJIC doing the show South Jersey Outdoorsman. He also was a member of the International Game Fishers Association. Bob enjoyed fishing, golfing, and hunting and he especially loved playing his banjo and ukulele for his grandchildren. By far, his greatest joy was being around his family. Pop-pop was always there to go to various events for his kids and grandkids. Bob is survived by his wife, the former, Barbara Smith; his sons, Robert A. McAllister III of Ocean City, Steven McAllister (Tina) of Clarksboro, Joseph McAllister (Coni) of Elsinboro and William McAllister (Christy) of Pennsville; his daughter, Nancy Maccarone (Sam) of Woolwich Twp.; brother, Herb McAllister (Leslie) of Wallingford, PA; 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
A Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Thursday evening, September 29th in WOODSIDE FUNERAL HOME, 613 Salem Quinton Rd., Salem, NJ 08079 (Quinton Twp.). SERVICES will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, September 30th, at the funeral home where friends may also call from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Burial will be in Sharptown Methodist Cemetery.
