Miriam “Elaine” Fowser Obituary

Miriam “Elaine” Fowser, age 97, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on January 1, 2025.

Elaine was born to William Rollin Fowser and Mary Hamilton Fowser, on July 21, 1927, in Salem, New Jersey
Elaine graduated from Salem High School in 1944. She worked at
DuPont for five years, then joined the Navy for four years, where she became a hospital corpsman. After the Navy, she attended Roberts Wesleyan College in New York and graduated in 1958, Magna Cum Laude, with a degree in nursing. She worked in New York, Salem Hospital operating room, became first Administrator at Salem Nursing Home and school nurse until her retirement in 1987. Elaine was a very active member of Quinton Baptist Church, which was founded by her forefathers in 1876. Elaine was a woman of many talents and hobbies. She played softball in the Navy, played the viola and organ. She did leather work, paintings,
made candles, ceramics and after retirement, she started writing
spiritual and inspirational poems and submitted them to Salesian
Missions where many were published. She would receive booklets of her published poems and would hand them out to friends and relatives. She was extremely proud of her poems.
Elaine was the first female to do a solo flight after receiving instruction from the newly opened Salem Airport. She did rock climbing and whitewater rafting in Colorado. There was almost nothing she would not attempt. Elaine loved her dogs (actually not hers) but the ones of her relatives that she would care for whenever needed.  They were definitely the loves of her life and hopefully Buffy, Chloe, Maggie and Vanna were there to meet her as she entered heaven's gates. She loved entertaining family and friends in her homes in Ocean City, Hobe Sound, Florida, and Quinton. She loved everyone and everyone loved her and to all she knew she was “Aunt Elaine”.

In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her brothers, J. M. Hamilton Fowser and William Rollin Fowser, Jr. She is survived by her niece and caretaker, Carol Fowser Weiser, her nephew Kenneth R. Fowser and her great nephews Sean Weiser, Aaron Weiser and Kenneth Ryan Fowser.
