Obituary

Lois Osgood Miltimore, age 87, of Monroeville, NJ, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2023 at Summit Place Senior Living, Glassboro, NJ, surrounded by family.

Lois was born in Farmington, ME, on March 26, 1936, to Henry Reuben and Grace Black Osgood. Lois graduated from Northwestern High School in Hyattsville, MD, in 1954, and soon after married Frank Young. They had four children – Joy, Allen, Jay and Jan – and later divorced. In 1968, she married William B. Miltimore in Hyattsville, MD, and two families became one with Bill’s children, Ruthanne and Bryan. They all moved to Gibbstown, NJ, and Lois went to work at 76 Truck Stop in Paulsboro, NJ, on 3rd shift so she could take care of the family during the afternoon and nights and sleep during the day. She worked at various positions – at Tiny Tots Day Care center in Woodbury, NJ; PSI in Thorofare, NJ; Acme Hamilton in Bellmawr, NJ; and for a dermatologist in Philadelphia Center City. She also studied for and earned her massage therapist certificate. At age 45, she decided to return to college part-time to start her long educational journey. Lois received an Associate in Applied Science degree in 1984 from Gloucester County College, a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1990 from Rowan University, a Master of Divinity degree in 2003 from Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a Doctorate of Ministry in Marriage and Family degree in 2010 from Palmer Theological Seminary at age 74. She then pastored at Memorial Baptist Church in Salem, NJ, until 2016, at age 80, when the church closed its doors. While at Memorial Baptist, she also ran a “Grandparents Raising Grandchildren” group for the Salem community. Lois served on boards, taught Sunday School, sang in the choirs and volunteered her time at Taylor Memorial Baptist Church in Paulsboro, NJ, and at Central Baptist Church in Woodbury, NJ. Lois played piano and had many musical nights with friends and family. She was an avid reader and passed that love of books on to the younger generations. She volunteered her time at Friends Village in Woodstown, teaching a weekly Bible study and visiting with residents. She had her certificate as a Literacy Program Volunteer and worked as an aide and tutor at Upper Pittsgrove School. In the later years, she would go into her daughter’s and granddaughter’s classrooms to read to the students. Her passion was her family. She loved and supported her children, doted on her grand- and great grandchildren. She enjoyed watching the children and grandchildren in all their scholastic and sports endeavors. She particularly loved watching softball and, even recently, went to all her granddaughters’ adult softball league games as they won their championships. She officiated at many of the grandchildren’s weddings, went to all high school and college graduations, attended her great-granddaughter’s preschool graduations, school plays, and dance recitals. She was a blessing to her family, and, for her, family was always a priority. She loved the ocean, especially her Outer Banks weeks with the families, and was still boogie-boarding at 80 years of age!

Lois is predeceased by her beloved husband, William; parents Henry and Grace Osgood; brother David Osgood; sister Lin Osgood Norman; and daughter Ruthanne Bates. Surviving are her sister Judy Matthews; her children Bryan Miltimore III (Stephanie), Joy Young, Allen Young (Jane), Jay Young, Jan Knorr (Robert); loving grandchildren Stacey Mangine (Joe), Angela Villecco, John Villecco (Katie), Lisa Allgaier (Eric), Ben Young, Amanda Mitchell (Jon), Erika Knorr (Stephanie), Caroline Young (Jimmy), Kristen Knorr (Terrance), Brooke Knorr, Dillan Young (Kylie); and her loving great grandchildren Elayna and Sofie Allgaier, Adelyn Villecco, Eli and Madilynn Mitchell, Brynlee Knorr and Elliott Osborne.
