Linn Vernon Harris, of Lower Alloways Creek Township, left this World on July 15.
He was a Christian man with absolute faith. He leaves his wife, Linda, her family, his brother William, sons Keith, Robert, and Walter, his daughter Rebecca and her daughters Katy, Erin, and Jillian. Contributions in his memory may be sent to Penton Chapel, 346 Quaker Neck Road, Salem, NJ, 08079.
Linn Vernon Harris went home to heaven on July 15, 2023 at the age of 83. He had suffered from ongoing cardiac complications. He was born July 17,1939 in Boise, ID to his late parents Edith Mary Hoffman and Rodney Lin Harris. His family moved to Spokane, WA when he was in the 7th grade. This became a special place because this is where four of his children were born and where his parents lived the rest of their lives. He was proud to have served in the US Navy for two years active duty and 24 years in the reserves as a Navy Seabee. He retired as a Chief Petty Officer He moved to Alaska in the 60’s and like many others, the state had his heart until the day he died. He married his late wife, Harriet Hancock Fogg in 1969 in Sitka, AK. Soon after, he adopted her daughter, Rebecca, and raised her as his own. He loved adventure and worked many interesting jobs. In Alaska, he owned a sawmill, did construction at a pulp mill, and installed sewer and water systems for many Native villages. In 1978, he bought a ranch in Montana sight unseen. For the next two years, the family worked very hard and grew faba beans and barley. They tried to move to Clayton, WA on May 19, 1980 but Mt. St. Helens erupted on the 18th which postponed their move. For the next six years, he enjoyed living near his parents and brother, Linn returned to Alaska in 1985 to live in Sand Point on the Aleutian Islands. He and Harriet later moved to Salem, NJ to live near Harriet’s family. He built a home for her on her father’s farm in 1997, and lived there until his death. In 2017, he married Linda Smith and was welcomed warmly into her family. He loved fly fishing, gun collecting, hunting, camping, and going to the family cabin, Fogg’s Nook in Central Pennsylvania. He is survived by his wife Linda Louise Harris, brother William C (Linda) Harris, daughter Rebecca Donelson, sons Keith, Walter, and Robert Harris and stepsons Anthony (Susan) Nelms and Bennie (Tracy) Leps, 20 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
A celebration of life service was held on July 15, 2023 at the LAC Firehouse in Hancock’s Bridge, NJ.
