Kenneth R. Lewis, Sr, age 86, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 28, 2020.
Born and raised in Salem, NJ, he was the son of Atwood Lewis & Mildred Russell. Kenneth is predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Shirley B. Lewis. Kenneth is survived by his children, Kenneth R. Lewis, Jr. (Karen) of Gilbertsville, PA, his daughters, Lynn Hall (John), of Pennsville, NJ, and Jill Horner (Brian), of Newark, DE. He is survived by his 6 grand-children Gina, Eric, Kenny, Monika, Kenneth III, and Sandy along with 4 great-grandchildren, Cora, Harrison, Kolette and Isabella. After graduating from Salem High School in 1952, Ken proudly served in the United States Air Force for 4 years during the Korean Conflict. Upon returning home, he began his career with Anchor Hocking Glass followed by DuPont Chambers Works where he retired as an Electrical Foreman. Ken enjoyed serving in public office. He initially served as Councilman for the City of Salem followed by serving as the Mayor of the City of Salem for 12 years during the mid 1970s to mid-1980s, and remained active on various committees throughout his lifetime. In his early years, he enjoyed playing baseball as catcher in the Salem County League. Kenneth enjoyed summers in Cape May and spending quality time with his family.
A graveside service, open to the public, will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Lawnside Cemetery in Woodstown, NJ.
