Joy F. Coleman, age 95, of Salem, NJ passed away Thursday, September 5th at Inspira Medical Center, Mannington.
Born in Salem, NJ, she was the daughter of the late George and Thelma Williams Freas. Before her retirement, Joy was a teacher for over 50 years, teaching in Salem City, NJ, Portland, Oregon as well as Guam and Hawaii. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Salem. Her roots in Salem run deep. She was raised on the family farm and loved planting flowers and some vegetables. Joy enjoyed politics and had a lifelong passion to see the town return to economic vibrancy. Joy ran for Mayor in the early 2010's and also ran for Salem City Council twice. Joy is survived by daughters, Robbie Coleman of Mannington, NJ, Renee Gross of Pittsburgh, PA (Oakford), Catherine Coleman of Portland, OR and Randi Coleman.
A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 14th 2024 at the First Presbyterian Church of Salem, 88 Market St., Salem, NJ 08079 where family and friends may visit from 10:00 to 11:00 AM.
