Joseph R. Rakiewicz

Joseph R. Rakiewicz, age 90, passed away peacefully in his Pennsville home on Wednesday,  December 7th 2022 following a brief illness.

Born in Pottsville, PA, he graduated from Pottsville High School and subsequently, served in the U.S. Army. Joe moved to Salem, NJ after marrying Harriett (nee Brown), where they raised four daughters: Terry Davis; Susan Rakiewicz, Carolyn Weigel (Frank) and Angela Brooks, all residing in Pennsville.  Employed by E.I. DuPont as a Traffic Specialist, he retired in 1994 when he was predeceased by his wife. Joe also worked part time at Kurt's Liquor Store. Later, he moved to Berlin, MD with his female companion of 26 years prior to returning to Pennsville in April. Faith, family and football, particularly the Philadelphia Eagles, were the center of his life. 

Joe leaves behind four grandchildren: Amy Hubbs (Dr. James Hubbs); Joseph Brooks (Lauren), Kristin Wyshinski (Jacob) and Dr. Frank Weigel and 11 great grandchildren: Dylan (his football buddy); Sophia, Jaylee and Jason Ecret; Harlow and Emersyn Hubbs, Jack, Luke and Logan Brooks and Harriett and Penelope Wyshinski. Also surviving are sisters Angeline (Nelle), Delores and Col. (Ret.) Caroline Rakiewicz and numerous extended family. Joe is predeceased by his parents, Theodore and Anna (Letkiewicz); his twin brother, Roy; brothers,
Theodore Jr., and James; and sisters, Regina, Margaret and Mildred. An active member of St. Mary Church, Joe was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the American Legion and the VFW.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, December 19th in St. Mary's Church, 25 Oak Street, Salem, NJ 08079 where a visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers please send donations in Joe's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
