Jesse Flowers, Sr. Obituary

Jesse Flowers, Sr. Currently of Zephyrhills, Florida, passed away peacefully on December 13 surrounded by his loving family.

Jesse was born at home in Penns Grove, NJ, on June 1, 1940, the eighth of the nine children of Miriam Ashenbrenner Flowers and Wells Flowers. He attended Penns Grove, N.J. Schools. Jesse and Leona lived most of their lives in New Jersey until moving to Florida in 2009 to be near their disabled son, Brian.

Jesse is survived by his wife of 61 years, Leona Dean Flowers; his daughter, Merry Teller and his beloved son in law, Michael Teller; and his grandchildren, Erin Teller, Dana Teller, Miles Teller (Keleigh), Lara Flowers Alliegra (Jesse), Jesse Flowers lll (Mehnaz), Bobbi Jo Watson, Meredith and Marissa Flowers; great grandchildren, Andrew Flowers, Isla and Audrey Alliegro, Jaxson Prows; and his great great grandchildren.

He is also grieved by many close and beloved nieces and nephews. Their dear nephew, Robert Daley, always provided a home with him in New Jersey for their regular visits North, and it was always a happy place where they could reunite with family and friends. Jesse was predeceased by his parents; his brothers, Roy, Gerald, Wells and Ronald and his sisters, Elizabeth, Judith, Claudette and Dinah. He was also predeceased by six of their children, Leona, Robert, Brian Dane, Jesse ll, and Kelly. After high school, Jesse joined the US Marine Corps and remained proud of having served in the “Corps” all his life. After his service with the Marines, Jesse went to work for DuPont Chambers Works in
Deepwater, N.J. until his 1999 retirement after 38 years with the
company. Jesse and Leona were an inspiration to all those who observed their special love and devotion to one another. They were always side by side. Jesse was a hardworking man, a devoted man of duty, who loved and cared for his family above all else. His wit and knowledge made him a person who everyone considered good company. His grandchildren loved his humor and recall with laughter his many quick one liners. They could talk with him about many things and never tired of his company. He had a great curiosity and interest in life. And he loved to travel. But the joy of his life was being with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was never so happy as when they were near. He was so proud of their successes and never tired of sharing their accomplishments. One of his grandchildren is the actor Miles Teller, who made sure his grandfather enjoyed many fun experiences. Jesse derived a lot of pride in sharing facts about his famous grandson. Of all his many jobs in life none brought him more satisfaction than being a grandfather. Jesse was the most wonderful “Poppy” and will always be remembered with great love.
