Janice C. Wood, age 87, of Eldora, passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 7, 2025.
She was born at Salem Hospital to L. Jesse Cook and Evelyn Williams Cook, and grew up in Canton, where she proudly graduated from Salem High School, Class of 1956.
Janice devoted more than 40 years as a legal secretary for Judge Bowen, where she was admired for her dedication, kindness, and professionalism. She was well liked by everyone in the courthouse and cherished the friendships formed throughout her career.
In 1960, Janice married Donnel Wood, and together they shared 34 memorable years filled with snowmobiling, boating, car shows, traveling with friends, and simply enjoying life together until Donnel’s passing in 1994. Their greatest joy came with the birth of their only child, Mark, in 1971.
During her son’s military service, Janice played an invaluable role in raising her six grandchildren alongside her daughter-in-law, Jacqueline. She spent those years lovingly spoiling them—something she considered one of her life’s greatest blessings. She loved being a grandmother more than anything in the world.
Janice treasured her lifelong friendships, especially making time for annual girls’ trips to Lancaster. In the past decade, she found companionship once again with Bill Eller, her devoted partner. Together they enjoyed life’s simplest pleasures: attending the senior center daily, listening to country music on Thursdays , and sharing countless dinners at the Maurice River Diner.
Janice is survived by her loving son Mark Wood (Jacqueline); her cherished grandchildren Madison, Jacob, Morgan (Brayden), Jesse (Adrianna), Molly, and Jaxon; and her littlest love, great-grandson, Vance Cole. She is also survived by her brother Donald Cook, her companion Bill Eller, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family, her “shop-til-you-drop” motto, her generous heart for giving gifts, her crocheted heirlooms, and her delicious pumpkin pies that were eagerly anticipated every holiday.
A funeral service will be held Friday, December 12, 2025 at Woodside Funeral Home, 613 Salem Quinton Rd., Salem, NJ 08079 ( located in Quinton Twp.) with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM, followed by a service at 11:00 AM. Burial will take place at Canton Baptist Church.
Donations in Janice's memory may be made to the Maurice River Twp. Senior Center, 590 Main Street, Leesburg, NJ 08327.
