Grace A. Powell, age 82, of Salem, passed away Sunday, December 3rd in Inspira Mullica Hill with her daughters at her bedside.
Born in Bridgeton, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Elijah and Grace Buchanan. Grace graduated from Bridgeton High School and was a graduate of Goldey Beacom School of Business. After completing school, she went to work for DuPont as a secretary. Grace took time off of work to raise her two daughters before returning to the school and the workforce. She graduated from Salem Community College with an Associate’s Degree in Accounting and was an administrative assistant for PSE&G. Grace was an active member of the Cumberland Chapter #145 of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 41 years, as well as a member of the First Baptist Church of Salem County. Grace enjoyed spending time with friends and family. Grace was an avid book reader and enjoyed shelling and beach adventures, needlepoint, Sudoku puzzles, and baking. Grace loved her Schipperke Callie and caring for her grand puppy Kodie. Grace is survived by her daughters, Sandra Powell of Ft McCoy, FL and Lisa Powell of Pennsville, NJ; sister Lynn Griffith (Bill) of Brooklet, GA, and nephew Scott Griffith (Lisa) of GA. She is predeceased by her infant son, Douglas James Powell and her former husband Douglas W. Powell.
Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 AM with services to follow Saturday, December 9th in WOODSIDE FUNERAL HOME, 613 Salem-Quinton Rd., Salem, NJ 08079 (Quinton Twp.). Graveside interment will be in Overlook Cemetery Overlook Dr., Bridgeton, NJ 08302.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Grace's memory to the Salem Fire Dept., 17 New Market Street, Salem, NJ 08079.
