George H. Ahl, age 89, of Salem passed away Monday, September 30th at his home.
Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Ferdinand and Elizabeth Hill Ahl. George was a self-employed mason contractor. He was a member of the Salem Volunteer Fire Department for over 70 years who was an exempt fireman, holding the positions of president and city chief. He was a Marine Corp. veteran. George played baseball with the Penton Cubs in the Salem County League. He was an avid Phillies' fan and loved country music. George was a member of the First Baptist Church of Salem and served as a trustee for many years and a member of the Happy Jacks Hunting Club. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, the former Virginia Pentecost; sons, George E. Ahl and James Ahl (Debra); daughters, Beverly Boyer and Virginia Jared; 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. George is predeceased by his daughter, Cynthia Ahl; great-grandson, Nolan; three brothers and one sister.
A Fireman's Service will be held 2:00 PM, Sunday, October 6th in WOODSIDE FUNERAL HOME, 613 Salem-Quinton Rd., Rt. 49, Quinton Twp. where friends may call after 12:00 noon. Burial with military honors will take place in Salem Baptist Cemetery.
