Ellsworth C. Schafer Sr. 80, of Lower Alloways Creek, NJ, died at home surrounded by his family, on Monday, January 10th.
He was the husband of Judith Schafer. Ells was born on June 26, 1941, in Heislerville, NJ. The son of the late Ellsworth (Jack) Schafer and Edith Lykins (nee Foster).
Ellsworth graduated from Pennsville High School in 1960 and was employed by Dupont Chambers Works. He was fortunate enough to take an early retirement and spent his time working in his garden, hunting, fishing and traveling. Ells had two true loves in his life, his wife
and his music. Over the years, he was a bass player in many different bands and that was definitely his happy place. He was the rock of the family and the go to for all advice. He had a quick wit and dry humor that will help to sustain us, as he will be sorely missed.
In addition to his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Judith, Ellsworth is survived by his brother William E. Schafer and his wife Catherine of Millville, NJ, step-brother Bobby Lykins, and step-sister Geraldine Samuels, predeceased by his sister Alice Vautier. His two children, Penni Foster and her husband Ronald of Pennsville, NJ, Ellsworth C. Schafer Jr. and his wife Ligaya of Vineland, NJ. 8 grandchildren: Darrah Pilieri (David), Richard Foster (Lindsey), Kysten Ayars (Ryan), Kelsey Schafer, Holli Pierce (Dylan), Cindi Strong (Dominic), Ronni Foster and Elijah Foster; 4 great-grandchildren, 2 nieces and a nephew.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday, January 14, 2022 at Woodside Funeral Home in Quinton, NJ beginning at 11am with a memorial service at 12noon.
