Donna (Rader) Bacon

On March 2, 2022, Donna (Rader) Bacon, loving mother and grandmother, passed away at the Cooper University Hospital. Donna was 72 years old at the time of her death, which was the result of postoperative pneumonia.

Donna was born, raised, and lived in Salem, NJ. She was the daughter of the late Josephine (Seeney) Rader and her husband, Dallas.  A graduate of Salem High School’s class of 1967, Donna lived as a neighbor in good standing and friend to the residents of Salem’s Chestnut Terrace neighborhood for over 40 years.  During that time, she raised two sons and enjoyed a career in retail sales as a dedicated employee of the Salem JCPenney and, later, the Pennsville Walmart as a customer service associate. Following a diagnosis of breast/lung cancer in 2014, she retired to focus on her health and what she saw as her duties as a doting grandmother. She was a member of the Quinton Baptist Church where she enjoyed the weekly prayer meeting and ladies’ Bible study. Donna also loved reading, visiting with friends, and frequenting the Salem Oak Diner.  She was known for her kindness, compassion, and characteristic telephone etiquette. 

Donna is survived by her children, Bruce H. Bacon, Jr. and Lori (Shimp) Bacon of Marriottsville, MD; Jeffrey B. Bacon and Stephanie (Abriola) Bacon of Highland, MD.; her grandchildren, Danielle, Jack, Avery, and Nate. Further, as one of eight siblings in her family she is survived by Dallas H. Rader, Sr. of Hancocks Bridge; Ruthann Miller of West Grove, PA; Donald Rader of Vineland; Sharon Jarriel of Loxahatchee, FL; and Mary Jo Brown of Bridgeton. Donna is predeceased by her loving friend and companion, George H. Simms, Sr.;  her brother, Edward J. Rader; and sister Barbara Franklin.  

Special thanks to George Simms, Jr., her neighbors at Salem Senior Village Apartments, and the Cooper University Health Care, Surgical Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 11, 2022 at WOODSIDE FUNERAL HOME, 613 Salem-Quinton Rd., Salem, NJ 08079.  Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. that same day.
