Dominic ‘Dom’ Joseph Carlone, Sr., age 92, passed away peacefully Saturday, January 25th at the New Jersey Veterans Memorial Home in Vineland.
Born in Malaga, NJ, Dom was the son of the late Carradino ‘Carlo’ Carlone and Brilliantina ‘Pearl’ Martello. Dom’s parents were Italy natives, both being born there. Growing up, Dom lived in Penns Grove, NJ and graduated from St. James High School. As a young adult, he served in the Air Force as a control tower operator at the Keesler Base in Biloxi, Mississippi. After his time in the service, Dom remained in that area of the country and lived in both Mississippi and Louisiana for many years. There, he had countless successful career ventures, entrepreneurships, and businesses, in addition to a wonderfully fulfilled life, in all aspects. He was truly the definition of a self-taught professional and simply, a beautiful being.
Dom’s very first endeavor was a delicatessen, Dom’s Luncheonette, located in Belle Chasse, Louisiana. Some years later, he founded Accent Annex Enterprises, which, at the time, was one the largest carnival bead and product distributors in the country. Dom had a deep-rooted love for the city of New Orleans, which, to no surprise, is where he ended up spending most of his life.
Additionally, Mardi Gras was his favorite time of the year and Dom’s business reflected that by supplying beads and accessories for the celebration for many successful seasons. During these same years, Dom also built, owned, and operated Accent Jewelry and Carlone's Restaurant, a banquet hall and dinner theater. Another significant era for Dom was when he served as a member of the Louisiana Lions Club, in which he spent many years
raising great funds for others with them. Dom traveled around the
world for leisure, business, and his charity work, and truly loved all
that his life offered him.
In his later years, Dom returned to the southern New Jersey area to live, once again. Even with age, he kept up with an avid exercise program, was always very meticulous about his grooming and appearance, and still enjoyed vacationing and traveling, especially to the beach in Lewes, Delaware.
In addition to his parents, Dom was predeceased by his brother Father Carmen Carlone, son Karl Carlone, three prior wives, Shirley Burmaster Carlone, Faye Lavoie, and Dianne Buisson, daughter-in law Traci Lyn Carlone, son-in-law Troy Martinez, and granddaughter Jessica Gustin. Dom is survived by his children with the late Shirley Burmaster Carlone, Patrica ‘Patti’ Martinez, Dominic Carlone II (Shelly), Chris (Kathy) Carlone, daughter-in-law Tracey Carlone, stepdaughter Michele Barnett, 8 grandchildren- Walton and Nikki Carlone, Trey, Ryan, and Reanna Martinez, Cendra Cae Giaccone and Toni Carlone, and Brandon Carlone, and 4 great grandchildren. Additionally, Andrea (Ray) Zarin, along with all his NJ family, loved and cared for him immensely and will miss him greatly, too. Lastly, Dom had countless once in a lifetime friends that he formed relationships with over the years- many that he remained connected with until the very end.
In celebration of Dom’s life, a service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, February 7th at Woodside Funeral Home, 613 Salem Quinton Road, Salem, NJ. 08079 (located in Quinton Twp.). A burial with military honors will follow at Finn’s Point National Cemetery - 454 Fort Mott Road, Pennsville, NJ 08070.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in Dom’s memory to the NJ Veterans Memorial Home which is located at 524 N. West Blvd., Vineland, NJ, 08360, as he spent his last couple of years there and created a special bond with many of the caregivers who provided exceptional support and love to him and his family. For this, we simply cannot thank them enough.
