Cecelia Hymer Obituary

Cecelia Frances Hymer (Maxwell) 82 of Lower Alloways Creek went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 22, 2021 at Inspira Medical Center in Vineland.

Born in Bridgeton on February 5, 1938 to Parker H. Maxwell and Verna A. Richey Maxwell. She was the wife of the late Carl W Hymer Sr. She had been a resident of Stow Creek Twp for most of her life before residing in Lower Alloways Creek. Before her retirement, Cecelia had worked at Jamesway in Bridgeton prior to that Cecelia had performed seasonal farm work ,side by side with her children in pepper fields for many summers.  Cecelia was a member of the Salem Wesleyan Church, 91 Walnut St, Salem, NJ 08079 where she had served as a Sunday School Teacher. She was a homemaker, she enjoyed crocheting, playing games and she was an animal lover…..especially cats. When she was younger she joined a bowling league where she participated in many tournaments; Cecelia played pretty well and acquired a couple trophies. TV shows she enjoyed watching were Women’s Roller Derby, Crime Mysteries , Westerns and Religious Programs. Crossword puzzles and word search were a favorite pastime of hers. When she lived in Stow Creek she enjoyed the time she spent in her flower garden; she often spoke about these flowers when residing in Lower Alloways Creek.

Her family described her as a caring, family woman, who thought the world of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Even as she grew older she never retired her parenting role, any child that she was around if she felt the child needed direction even if the parent was there to instruct them she would correct the child. Family was her pride and joy and she looked forward to spending time with them, and was always offering to help them in any way she could.

She is survived by her children, Cynthia Picerno and her husband, Rocky of Bridgeton, Carl W. Hymer Jr and his wife, Gail of Quinton Twp, daughter-in-law Laura (pre-deceased son David) of Greenwich Twp ,Connie Blevins and her husband, Donald of Tabor City, NC, TimothyHymer and his wife, Mae of Deepwater Twp, Joan Clour and her husband James of Quinton Twp and Lisa Clour and her fiancé Rick of Quinton Twp; her sibling, Jenny Grooms of Bridgeton; she was blessed with 27 grandchildren and 51 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Carl W. Hymer Sr.; her son, David W Hymer Sr.; brother, Herbert L. Maxwell; and three sisters, Priscilla Blake, Evelyn Fithian and Ethel Maxwell (infant).

Services will be held 11:00 AM, Friday January 29th in WOODSIDE FUNERAL HOME (Quinton Twp), 613 Salem Quinton Rd., Rt 49, Salem, NJ 08079 where friends will be  Received after 10:00 AM. Interment will take place at Cohansey Baptist Church, 714 Roadstown Rd, Bridgeton, NJ 08302.
