Carolyn Bowen Dilks, age 82, of Lower Alloways Creek passed away Thursday, March 2nd 2023 at home after a courageous battle with health issues.
Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Bowen and Sue (Eller) Hodgdon. As a nurse Carolyn worked at the Salem Memorial Hospital, Faith Farm, and was also a contract nurse for the Department of Developmental Disabilities for which they provided in-home care for two profoundly disabled children, Sean and Renee. Carolyn and her husband started Carolina Creations and enjoyed travelling to multiple states making and selling their crafts. Proud and strong in her United Methodist faith, she served as a Stephen Minister as well as a Lay Leader. She spent the last 20 years in Florida with her husband until recently returning to Jersey. Also she enjoyed spending time with both Florida and Jersey friends, recently reconnecting with a group of grammar school friends, affectionately called the "P.O.B".s.
Carolyn is survived by her sons, Vernon R. Dilks, Jr. (Kent) of New Castle, DE and Jeffrey A. Dilks (Mary Jayne) of Lower Alloways Creek; her daughters, Sharron K. Franzen (Rudy) of Quinton and Amy S. Dilks (LaJuana) of Fishers, Indiana; brother, John Magee (Pat) of Landrum, South Carolina; sister, Evelyn Pankok of Jacksonville, Florida; her grandchildren, Tabitha, Hannah, Alayna and Bowen; and her great grandchildren, Brayden, Adalyn, Aria, Meadow, Brea, and Monroe. She is predeceased by her husband, Vernon R. Dilks, Sr.
Services will be held 11:00AM, Tuesday, March 7th, 2023 in Canton United Methodist Church, 918 Main Street, Salem, NJ 08079 (Canton) where family & friends may visit from 10:00 to 11:00AM. Burial will be in Eastview Cemetery, Salem, NJ 08079.
