Barbara Ann Haynes, of Elsinboro, NJ passed away Monday, December 8, 2025.
Born November 5, 1936, in Dennis Township, Cape May County, NJ to Lewis Meher and Mathilde Dozolme. Barbara grew up on her grandfather Angelys’ farm in Tuckahoe, NJ, running through wine vineyards and helping to feed chickens as her daily chores.
Little would she know her life would revolve around farming.
As a child, Barbara would spend time in Miami, FL before she eventually moved to Salem, NJ. While attending Salem High School she would meet the love of her life Benjamin F Haynes Jr. She was married at the age of 16 in 1952. Living on Riverview Farm didn’t come easy.
Barbara would go on to raise veal calves,
drive tractors alongside her husband, and raise a family. Barbara earned her nickname, “Hot Rod Haynes”, driving school children for a combined 50 years for Elsinboro School and B.R. Williams. You would find Barbara also working at the Five and Ten and Woolworth’s in Salem City. She would go on to work for JC Penney and Peebles in retail for 40 plus years. Barbara was a devoted Christian attending the Walnut Street United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed being a part of the church choir. She led the Elsinboro Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary for many years as well as attending many local farm dinners weekly.
She was a homemaker in every sense. Canning, cooking, baking, decorating for holidays, family picnics and parades on the “Haynes Funny Farm”. She enjoyed ceramic doll making, China painting, yard sales, and taking weekly trips to the Ocean City boardwalk.
After retiring from bus driving in 2018, Barbara enjoyed her later years shopping, traveling, C and Bea Tours, Lancaster trips and spending her days with her grand puppy, Amber.
Barbara is survived by her brother, David Arslan (Gloria); two sons, Benjamin F Haynes III and Donald Mifflin Haynes; her grandchildren, Shayne Coleman , Jessica Land (Chris), Amy Garrison (Rusty), Benjamin F Haynes IV, Erica English (Michael), Alyssa Williams (Tim), and Kristyn Haynes; her great-grandchildren, Xavier (24), Noah (22), Christopher (18), Kayla (15), Lana (15), TY (12), Mason (11), Cole (9), Troy (8), Aubrey (6), Colt (6), Thomas (3), Jaxon (11 months) and Brody (6 months). Barbara is predeceased by her husband, Benjamin F Haynes Jr to whom she was married to for 55 years; her sons, John Lafarge Haynes and Micheal Alan Haynes; her brothers, Billy Meher, Paul Meher, and Sonny Meher; and her sister, Lois Fansler.
Barbara knew everyone as everyone knew Barbara. She became a mother to all. She was the light in the room; always joyful, and selfless. She will be remembered for her full open heart to anyone.
Her final resting place will be at Eastview Cemetery in Salem, NJ with her late husband whom she loved and adored. A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held at a later date.
