Arline M. Newsome

Arline M. Newsome, age 84, of Salem, passed away Monday, August 12th 2024 at Inspira Health Center, Mullica Hill.  Born in Hurffville, she was a lifelong resident of Salem, NJ.  Arline was the daughter of the late Charles Newsome and Helen T. Ridley.

She held many positions over the years, her last at the former ice cream stand at Delaware Park.  Arline loved the bright lights and excitement of the casinos. She also loved the old west, westerns and John Wayne. You could always find her immersed in one of her many artistic projects - sewing, cake decorating, painting and ceramics.  She had great fun teaching ceramics to the students at St. Mary's Elementary School in Salem. Arline was a member of the VFW women's auxiliary in Elsinboro for many years.  When her children were young you could find her at the Little League and Salem Oak football games working the concession stands.  She was also a Girl Scout Leader. Arline loved her family; they were her heart and soul. Cooking a fabulous meal with her family gathered around were the times she treasured the most. Those times will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her brother, Roland (Pitts) Ridley and his wife, Barbara; her daughter, Sandi Suey and her husband, Greg; her son, Paul (PJ) Emmons and his wife, Amy; her grandchildren, Jillian, Cara, Laura (Sean), Jackie and Greg; her great grandchildren, Dalon, Damian, Liam, Emilia and Harper; her godson, Josh and niece, Jessica; many great nephews and great nieces. Arline is predeceased by her son, Richard (Doodle) C. Emmons, Jr.; her grandson, Richard (Richie) C. Emmons III; her daughter, Charlene Emmons; brother, Charles E. Newsome; sister, Sandra E. Newsome.
