Alan W. Shimp

Alan W. Shimp, 81, a lifelong resident of Lower Alloways Creek, passed away on Friday, December 5, 2025. He was the son of the late Leon and Caroline Harris Shimp.

He graduated from Salem High School in 1963 and from Delaware Valley College of Science and Agriculture (now Delaware Valley University) in 1967 with a Bachelor of Science in Horticulture. A devoted farmer, Alan found his happiest moments on the tractor. For the past 25 years, he worked for Catalano Farms.

An avid outdoorsman, Alan hunted deer and ducks, trapped muskrat, and cherished deer season with his brothers and friends. In addition to hunting locally, for many years he made hunting trips to the Pennsylvania Deer Woods and Maine.  He was an active member of Ducks Unlimited, regularly attending their annual banquet. He collected Terry Redlin prints, drawn to their depictions of rural American life, hunting, and peaceful landscapes. Alan loved hosting family and friends at his annual summer crab feast, where he proudly served his famous clams casino. He was well known for offering sound, practical advice, often with a Miller High Life in hand.

Alan is survived by his children, Lori Shimp Bacon (Bruce), Eric Shimp, and Jennifer Shimp; his grandchildren, Danielle Bacon, Jack Bacon, and Lilee Dickson; his brothers, Donald Shimp (Anne Morris) and Leon Shimp (Sachiko); his sisters, Joyce Shimp Massey (Tom) and Shirley Shimp Chew (Jimmy); his brother-in-law, Ed Jamison; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends. He was predeceased by his sister, Brenda Shimp Jamison.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at the Salem River Inn, 91 Country Club Rd., Salem, NJ 08079. Visitation will be from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m., followed by the service at 1:00 p.m.
