Thomas Weigel, Jr., age 89, formerly of Mannington went to be with his Lord on Monday, July 23rd. He passed, surrounded by his family, at his home in Appledorn Assisted Living Complex, Holland, MI, following a short illness.
Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Thomas Sr and Viola Cox Weigel. Following 20 years of farming, Tom was a noted salesman selling cars and trucks at Patrick Chevrolet, F Bell Chevrolet and Bobbitt Pontiac. He served his community of Mannington as a past member of the Volunteer Fire Company, PTA president, Grange and School Board. He enjoyed time as a 4H leader, Sunday school teacher, Lay Leader and Finance Director at Broadway United Methodist Church. He loved gardening, often shipping produce to his beloved grandchildren who lived hundreds of miles away. He has built treehouses and was a handyman for his grandchildren, whom he adored. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Evelyn (Shimp) Weigel, son Dale Weigel (Steve Markham), Gail Weigel (mother of Heather, Craig & Joanna), Granddaughter Heather Schneider (Frank), Grandson Craig Weigel (Carmen) and Granddaughter Joanna Mierkowicz (Joe), and 8 Great Grandchildren--Sarah and Matt Schneider, Caden, Colton and Cooper Weigel, and Tyler, Evan and Drew Mierkowicz, all who live in Michigan. A sister Sara Bailey lives in Pennsville. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by brothers Henry, Leslie, Lewis, Norman, Frank and Arthur and sisters Mildred and Kathryn.
Services will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 28th (their 72nd wedding anniversary) in WOODSIDE FUNERAL HOME, 613 Salem-Quinton Rd., RT. 49, Quinton Twp. where friends may call after 10:00 AM. Burial will be in Lawnside Cemetery, Pilesgrove. Contributions in Mr. Weigel's memory may be made to Broadway United Methodist Church, 1325, 1151/2 W. Broadway, Salem, NJ 08079.
