Robert John Coblentz was born to Harry M. and Anne Y. Coblentz (nee Nichols) in Franklinville, New Jersey on July 22, 1929.
He attended Clayton High School where he was a captain on their championship football team, earning a full football scholarship to Ryder University. In 1988 he was elected to the Clayton High School Hall of Fame. He joined the US Air Force during the Korean War, serving four years in Japan where he also played football. After the war Bob was hired by IBM where he would work for 35 years achieving the level of field engineer specialist. In 1957 he married Elaine Niblock of Quinton, New Jersey; they celebrated their 62nd anniversary in 2019. They lived for years in Quinton where they raised their three boys. Following retirement from IBM, he worked for the FAA for over ten years, supervising the installation of air-traffic computers in major world airports. From 1989 to 2017 Bob and Elaine spent three months of the winter at the Suni Sands Mobile Home Park on the inlet in Jupiter Florida.
“Bob” died on January 14th leaving behind his wife Elaine; their sons, Chuck (Jean), Paul (Bobbi), and Harry (Amy); seven grandchildren- Alexandra Winchell (Joe), Danielle, Harrison, Robbie, Katie, Ty, and Lane; and two great grandchildren, Scarlett and Maverick. He was predeceased by his parents, as well as his sister Betty Bajewicz (Bernie)and brother Bill (Margaret).
Visitation will take place on Friday, January 17th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at WOODSIDE FUNERAL HOME, 613 Salem Quinton Rd. (Rt. 49), Quinton. Services will be held Saturday, January 18th at 11:00 AM at QUINTON UNITED METHODIST CHURCH on Main Street in Quinton where friends may call from 10:00 to time of service. Burial to follow at Lawnside Cemetery in Woodstown. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Gloucester County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 240 N.
