Mildred Major Sheets, age 97, of Salem, New Jersey died on September 27, 2017 at Friends Village. Mildred (Mathildis Agnetes Hajdinjak Medjimorec) was born in Donja Dubrava, Croatia on February 28, 1920 and came to America in 1928. She and mother and brother traveled from Croatia to Hamburg, Germany to board the ship, Hamburg, bound for New York to meet her father. They met her father who took them to Oxford, PA before moving to a farm in Penton, NJ. Mildred worked at Anchor Hocking for 40 years as a clerk in the main office before her retirement in 1982. She was a member of the Salem County Historical Society, Salem Women's Club, Alloway Seniors, Alloway Pairs and Spares and attended St. Mary's Church. She enjoyed camping and spending time in Chincateague, VA. She is survived by her daughter, Judy Almond; step-daughter, Susan Miller; daughter-in-law, Jan Sheets; her grandchildren, Annette Phifer, David Almond, Gregory Almond, James Miller, Matthew Miller, Troy Sheets and Glenn Sheets; great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren. Mrs. Sheets is predeceased by her husbands, Charles Storey and Lewis Sheets; her parents, Frank and Agnes Major; brothers, George, Frank, Charles and Victor Major; son-in-law, Norman Almond; and step-son, Lewis Sheets. A special thank you to Tina Almond who selflessly provided assistance and support to Mildred.

Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing from 9:15 to 10:15 AM, Monday, October 2nd in Woodside Funeral Home, 34 Oak Street, Salem. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 AM in St. Mary's Church, 25 Oak Street, Salem. Burial will be Eastview Cemetery, Salem. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Mary's Church, c/o St. Gabriel the Arch Angel, 350 Georgetown Rd., Carneys Point, NJ 08069.
