Mae Mildred Hogate Keen, age 96, of Salem passed away on Friday, March 30, 2018.
Born May 19th 1921 at home in Elsinboro, Mae was the daughter of the late Henry and Kate Myers Hogate, the sixth of 12 children. Mae is survived by her children, Barbara Hiles of Pennsville, Kenneth P. Keen, Jr. of Carneys Point, Helen Howell (Larry) of Florida and Susan K. Breslin (Bob) of Quinton; and daughter-in-law, Liz Keen of Pennsville; 13 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren; sisters, Hannah James and Jean Thomas; several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, Kenneth Preston Keen, Sr.; infant daughter, Ruth Ann; grandson, Samuel T. Hiles, Jr.; son-in-law, Samuel T. Hiles, Sr.; and mother-in-law, Alice DeMaris Keen; brothers, Joshua, Francis (Cap), Leroy (Bud) and Earl; sisters, Caroline Pierson, Pauline McPherson, Marian Tunstall, Alma Hogate and infant sister, Mildred. At her request, Mae wanted it known that all of her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren were the "loves of her Life" and each one brought her much joy. A fighter to the end, at almost 97 years old, one of Mae's passing remarks to her grandson, Robbie, was "I hate to be leaving you kids so soon!"
Graveside Services will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, April 6th in the Salem County Veteran's Cemetery, Pilsegrove.
