Charles Thomas Mullica, who was known by many as Uncle Chub, was born on May 1st 1925 to Harry and Margaret Sowers Mullica in Quinton, NJ.
Charles was married to the love of his life, the former Gladys Nelson, on March 11th 1967 until her passing in 2016. He joined the US Navy in 1943 where he served in the European Theatre as a transport ship pilot. He took part in the Invasion of Normandy and was awarded the Amphibious Force Insignia for his effort. After leaving the Navy, he opened his own barber business, Charle's Barber Shop on East Broadway in Salem. He gave up the barber shop to work for DuPont in Deepwater as a pipe fitter. He retired in 1972 from DuPont and returned to barbering in the New Castle Farmers Market. Charles was an avid hunter and fisherman who enjoyed teaching his nephews as well as his nieces to fish. In his spare time Charles enjoyed flying; he had his own plane and private license. He also enjoyed breaking horses and had one he boarded named Ginger on Jericho Road in Quinton. Charles was a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He is survived by his nephews and nieces, Garry and Tina Halstead of Pilesgrove, Cindy and Warren Knight of LAC, Larry and Peggy Halstead of Elsinboro, Brenda and Wayne Cheeseman of Pennsville, Carol and Bobby Zimmerman of Carneys Point; brother-in-law, Robert (Chick) Caldwell of LAC; 16 great nieces and nephews; and 22 great great nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his wife, Gladys; both parents; and his bother, Harry Mullica.
