Donald Samuel Strock
May 8, 1942 ~ December 5, 2017 (age 75) 75 Years OldDonald Samuel Strock, age 75, of Salem passed away Tuesday, Dec. 5th in Jefferson Hospital for Neuroscience, Philadelphia, PA. Born on May 8th 1942 in West Berlin, NJ, he was the son of Winfield and Thelma Marie Quirk Strock. Mr. Strock held the rank of Master Sergeant (E8), United States Army, June 1960 - June 1986. He received the Meritorious Service Medals and the Army Commendations Medals. Mr. Strock was a veteran of the Vietnam War Counteroffensive Phase I-III and silent warrior during the Cold War. Upon retirement he owned two country stores and served as post master in Madras, GA. On October 10th 1967 he married Helen Elaine Shoemaker and they were married for almost 45 years. Mr. Strock is survived by his son, Donald Samuel Strock, Jr.; his daughter, Debra Ann Eldridge; sister, Donna Stacy; his grandchildren, Samantha Strock, Amber Strock, Cheyanne, Zoe and Ian Eldridge, Ethan Strock, Christopher McCoy, Matthew McCoy, Shawna (McCoy) Gulsby; and great grandchildren, Isabella Gulsby, Autumn and Jorgie. He is predeceased by his wife, Helen Elaine Strock; his son, William (Billy) Richard Strock; brother, Randy Quirk; and sister, Fern Bell. His hobbies included camping, writing, sightseeing worldwide, long road trips, fishing, Boy Scout leader and building Christmas gingerbread houses. Special thanks to the ICU staff at Jefferson Hospital Neuroscience for their dedication and special care they showed to our father in his last days.
Services will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, Dec. 12th in WOODSIDE FUNERAL HOME, 34 Oak Street, Salem where friends may call after 10:00 AM. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Harleigh Cemetery, Camden.
