Carol Smith, age 77 of Deepwater, passed away Wednesday, April 26th in the Memorial Hospital of Salem County surrounded by her loving family. Born in Millville, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Betty Radcliffe Travis. Carol was employed by the NJ Turnpike Authority at the Clara Barton rest stop gift shop. Carol had the most caring, kindest heart and loved her family no matter what. She was an avid collector of butterflies and loved to decorate her home with her beautiful collection. Carol loved animals, especially her little dog, Bonnie with all her heart. A few years ago when she and her husband had basset hounds they would visit nursing homes with them and also walk them around Riverview Beach Park and around Deepwater. She was delighted to see Rufus and Huckleberry make people happy. She had an incredible green thumb as currently shown in her beautiful, colorful backyard garden. Her favorite hobby was spending many days lovingly nurturing her flowers. In recent years, her favorite hobby, besides jigsaw puzzles, was her coloring books. She was very passionate about coloring each one and was known for generously showing and sharing her beautiful work with everyone she encountered. The best part of knowing Carol was her happy, go lucky personality. She had such a knack of making people feel good and happy just by being with her. She simply loved people. If there was one thing she left us with, it is her amazing attitude about life and that when things are tough there is always a better day coming. "Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over she became a butterfly." Carol is survived by her daughter, Lorna Counsellor (James) of Quinton; sisters, Becky Krevics of Bridgeton and Penny Crissy of Quinton; and four grandchildren, Chelsey, Amber, Matthew and Taylor. She is predeceased by her husband, Jerome Smith; and daughter, Doris Myers.

Memorial Service will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 2nd in WOODSIDE FUNERAL HOME, 34 Oak Street, Salem where friends may call after 10:00 AM. Contributions in her memory may be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital , 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
